MadFish Riesling revels in gold medal success

The iconic MadFish Riesling has scooped the fifth gold medal win of its history at the 2007 Rutherglen Wine Show in Victoria.

The gold medal was awarded to the new release 2007 MadFish Riesling, which is made from 100% Great Southern fruit in a clean, crisp and refreshing style that represents the fine quality of wines from this cool climate region. The wine is designed to drink now as it delivers purity and freshness, in which the pristine flavour of the fruit is the primary character.

The win is added to the list of top accolades for this wine, which already include 4 gold medals and 5 trophies at the 2006 and 2004 Qantas Mount Barker Wine Shows, 2006 Rutherglen Wine Show and 2005 Hyatt International Riesling Challenge.

“Since being released in 2004, the MadFish Riesling has consistently received top honours as a fine example of classic cool climate Riesling. The wine punches well above its weight and the string of five gold medals is testament to this,” says MadFish owner Jeff Burch.

The Rutherglen Wine Show is notably Australia’s oldest known wine show. Originally part of the Rutherglen Agricultural Society’s Annual Show, it became a separate event in the early 1980’s as the number of wine entries began to climb to more than 200.

In addition to the gold medal for the 2007 Riesling, MadFish Wines was awarded a bronze medal for the 2007 MadFish Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.
