Young Winemaker finalists announced

The Wine Society has announced the finalists for the Young Winemaker of the Year 2007. In a first for the award, 11 finalists instead of the usual 10 have been announced due to the high quality of the entries.

The final 11 are Tim Bailey from Leconfield (McLaren Vale, SA); Christie Brown from Wild South Wines (Marlborough, NZ); Andrew Higgins from McWilliams Wines (Barawang, NSW); Elizabeth Jackson from Tempus Two (Hunter Valley, NSW); Troy Kalleske from Kalleske Wines (Barossa Valley, SA); Loic Le Calvery from Taltarni Wines (Moonambel, VIC); Helen McCarthy from Taylors Wines (Clare Valley, SA); Jen Pfeiffer from Pfeiffer Wines (Wahgunyah, VIC); Joshua Scott from Allan Scott Wines & Estates (Marlborough, NZ); Joel Tilbrook from Brown Brothers (Milawa, VIC) and Usher Tinkler from Pooles Rock (Hunter Valley, NSW).

The top two wines from each winemaker will now be judged by a panel of industry icons to decide the Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year for 2007.

Throughout October, the 11 finalist’s wines will also be put to the test by Wine Society members and sommeliers in a national road show to determine the Members’ Choice and Sommeliers’ Choice awards. The winners will then be announced at the black tie gala awards dinner in Sydney on 3 November 2007.
