Tony Soljan and his famous, pioneering family of winemakers did it ‘their way’ 75 years ago to establish one of the first wineries in NZ, from humble beginnings to exporting to the world today.
To celebrate Soljans Estate Winery’s 70 years, the family is 'Putting on the Ritz' in a night of glamour that will transport you back to the fabulous Swing Era.
Wearing a vintage 40s-style frock or suit for the occasion is optional, but dancing shoes are compulsory for a night of 'Dancing with the Stars' — Soljan's style!
Enjoy the music of Old Blue Eyes, Dean Martin and other stars will sing the songs you love while in the spirit of Fred Astaire, the live band will entice you onto the dance floor for a waltz, quick-step or a good old swing. The band will also flashback to notable dates in Soljan's history when they introduce a song, such as 1927 when the family first arrived in New Zealand from Croatia.
This will be a night to celebrate the past and the present, with Tony's grandchildren now continuing the Soljans tradition, with grandson Tyler making his first wine when he was 5, and this year Amber, aged 8 years, claimed the title of the first female winemaker in the family. Keeping in-tune with the 40s theme, there will a cocktail on arrival at the 'ritzy' winery in Kumeu, included in the $45 ticket price, with classic drinks such as the `Soljans Sling’ and Soljans Estate wine available on cash bar.
