Now in its 14th year, the Shoal Bay Jazz Wine & Food festival in conjunction with the Hunter Valley Vineyard Association takes place over the weekend of 31 August – 2 September at the Shoal Bay Resort & Spa.
Musicians including the Todd Hardy Quintet, Anita Spring and the Civic Quartet featuring Matt Enks will play throughout the festival.
A select group of just eight tables of diners will indulge in an eight-course degustation dinner created specially by the resort’s executive chef Patrick Power, with matching wines lead by eight of the Hunter Valley’s aspiring young winemakers. Each table will be hosted by one of the chosen winemakers.
The stars of the evening will be Jock Tulloch (Tulloch Wines), Andrew Leembruggen (McWilliams Mt Pleasant), Sarah Crowe (Brokenwood Wines), Matt Burton (Wandin Valley Estate), Duane Roy (Glandore Estate), Liz Augustyne (Margan Family Wines), Chris Tyrrell (Tyrrell’s Wines) and Peter Orr (James Estate). Tickets are limited and cost $125 per person.
The two Saturday Master Classes are the perfect way to brush up on your knowledge of both wine and cheese. Winemaker and Hunter Valley Legend, Karl Stockhausen will facilitate the master classes along with a panel of local winemakers. Karl along with the panel will walk participants through a tutored tasting of some of the Hunter’s most renowned boutique and iconic wines, explaining terroir, winemaking styles and varietal differences, answering questions from the audience along the way.
