With a little over a month to go to Wine New Zealand 2007, preparations are well underway for the most comprehensive tasting of New Zealand wine in the world.
This unique tasting and educational platform will take place as part of HospitalityNZ, from 2–4 September in Auckland.
There are 160 exhibiting wineries, showcasing in excess of 1000 wines across all the major varietals. This is the opportunity to sample new release wines and discover new and interesting wine styles as well as meet with the winemakers.
“As Wine New Zealand celebrates its 10th Anniversary, we are delighted to welcome so many first time exhibitors to the event,” Michele Harrod, Group Trade Manager, dmg world media said.
“In particular it is exciting to see a number of emerging and boutique wineries exhibiting and we are delighted that they have chosen Wine New Zealand to showcase their wines to the premier hospitality industry.”
This event is truly a celebration of a remarkable decade for the New Zealand wine industry, with boutique and emerging wineries exhibiting alongside the country’s top wine producers and established wineries.
As New Zealand continues to develop an international reputation for producing a diverse range of top quality wines, it is inspiring to see the range that will be available to taste at the event.
In line with the New Zealand wine tradition, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are the wine styles that will be most extensively sampled at the show. Cabernet/Merlot Predominant Blends rank fourth, closely followed by the increasingly popular Riesling varietal in fifth place. Pinot Gris remains one of the ‘hottest’ wine styles at the moment and more than 40 wineries have listed this variety in their tasting line-up. Syrah is also well represented.
An emerging new variety in New Zealand is Viognier which features as a popular category along with Gewurztraminer and an increased range of dessert wines. A number of alternative varieties will be available for sampling in the ‘Other White Varieties’ and ‘Other Red Varieties’ categories.
To top off the anniversary celebrations, Wine New Zealand will invite visitors to nominate their choice for the winery and winemaker that enhances their overall event experience, with the Wine New Zealand Buyer’s Choice Awards. Platinum event sponsor O-I New Zealand are naming sponsor of the O-I New Zealand Buyer’s Choice Winery Award and Labels For Wine are proud to sponsor the Labels For Wine Buyer’s Choice Winemaker Award.
