James Halliday’s 2008 Australian Wine Companion out soon

Keenly anticipated each year by winemakers, collectors and wine lovers, the soon to be released James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion is recognised nationally as the industry benchmark.

This new-look 2008 edition has been completely updated and revised to bring you up-to-the-minute information. In his inimitable style, Halliday shares his extensive knowledge of wine through detailed tasting notes, each with vintage-specific ratings, and advice on optimal drinking, as well as each wine’s closure, alcohol content and price. He provides information about the wineries, winemakers and other important details such as opening times, contact details and website addresses.

Just as the industry has undergone many changes, the Australian Wine Companion, too, has changed. Two-colour printing makes the guide easier to read, with the 5-star winery ratings printed in red for wineries of outstanding merit, and wine tasting notes of special interest also listed in red. Increasingly, the focus of the Australian Wine Companion from this year on will be on the best wineries and the best wines.

James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2008 features:

• Profiles of 1740 wineries • 218 new wineries • Tasting notes for 5836 wines • Expert rankings of wineries throughout Australia • Vintage rating charts • Regional index showing availability of food, accommodation, music events and cellar-door sales • A full colour map of the wine regions of Australia

An indispensable reference from the country’s leading wine authority, the Australian Wine Companion is a must-have for anyone planning to visit a winegrowing region, or wanting to replenish their cellar or wine rack.

Published by Hardie Grant Books, James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2008 will be released on the 24 July 2007.
