Helm Riesling wins trophy and gold at Winewise 2007

Winewise 2007 small Vignerons Awards were again judged in Canberra last week with senior judges from Australia and New Zealand assessing wines from many premium wine regions around Australia.

Helm Wines of Murrumbateman in the Canberra District won against 66 Rieslings, the Trophy for best Riesling and top gold medal for their 2005 Premium Riesling. Their classic Dry Riesling 2006 and yet to be released Classic Dry Riesling 2007 also were in the medals with bronzes.

Last year, at Winewise Helm Rieslings won gold and 3 silver awards and judged off for the trophy. This year Helm Riesling bettered the result and took gold and trophy. Helm Rieslings in the last 7 years have won 6 trophies, 9 gold, 13 silvers and 32 bronze awards, a very consistent and outstanding result for any winery.

The result supports recent media comments that the Canberra Region is producing some of the best Rieslings in Australia.

Murrumbateman did just as well with red wines, Shaw Vineyard Estate taking the trophy and gold for best red wine.
