Awards to recognise great wine lists

Restaurants are being encouraged to enter the Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards before the closing date of Friday 29 March.

Presented wine distributor Fine Wine Partners and Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine, the awards recognise the skill, hard work and investment required to craft great lists.

The awards maintain their independence and integrity with a 28 strong judging panel chaired by award-winning wine communicator Peter Forrestal. Judges include former wine list winners, highly respected wine communicators, Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers from Australia, the UK, Europe, NZ and the US. This panel reviews the wine lists for many qualities, which include user friendliness and how well the list fits the style of the venue.

Gourmet Traveller WINE editor Judy Sarris said winners over the past three years have been incredibly diverse.

“In 2010 the top prize was won by the impressively large list of Rockpool Bar and Grill but consecutive years saw wins by smaller restaurants, including seaside venue, Pilu at Freshwater and country restaurant The Royal Mail in Dunkeld. We encourage everyone to enter as there are opportunities to shine in many different categories,” she said.

Results will be published in the August/September issue of Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine.
