Wine industry magazine closes

The current wine industry challenges have taken their toll with the closure of GrapeGrowers & Vignerons magazine, published by Stock Journal Publishers.

Subscribers were advised this week the magazine will be their last under the headline “End of an Era”.

GrapeGrowers & Vignerons started in 2007 when two mastheads – National GrapeGrowers and Australian Vignerons – merged to create one publication covering the industry.

In thanking her readers, editor Jacinta Rose said that the magazine has been unable to continue in a very competitive and changing media landscape.

General manager of Stock Journal Publishers Joe Wallman said it was a sad occasion when a publication such as GrapeGrowers & Vignerons closed because of economic circumstances.

Industry publishing conditions have not been easy in recent years. Peter and Kathryn Fuller sold their controlling interest in Free Run Press, publisher of Wine Business Magazine, in October last year to an Adelaide printer to concentrate on running their family brand and communications business, FULLER.

Free Run Press is now diversifying into tourism and special interest magazines.

Major industry publisher, Winetitles produces the longest-serving monthly Australian & New Zealand Grapegrower & Winemaker (currently celebrating 50 years), the bimonthly Wine & Viticulture Journal and annual Wine Industry Directory.

Winetitles general manager Elizabeth Bouzoudis said that with industry conditions tight for producers and suppliers, there remains a constant demand from grapegrowers and winemakers for timely, practical information and industry news and Winetitles was committed to serving the industry well into the future.

“With the recent added benefits of viewing journals online and access to thousands of archived articles, our reader surveys indicate a continuing positive response to quality print journals offering digital access,” she said.

Winetitles also publishes DailyWineNews.com.
